From glittering lights to bustling markets, Málaga offers a holiday experience like no other.

When the Lights Shine Bright

The city’s Christmas lights are the highlight of the season. In 2025, the main switch-on event takes place on Friday, 28 November, starting at 6:30 pm in the historic centre, with Calle Marqués de Larios at the heart of the celebration. Following the switch-on, nightly light and sound shows take place at approximately 6:30 pm, 8:30 pm, and 10:00 pm.

Covering more than 500 streets with over 2.7 million LED lights, Málaga’s festive display is one of the most impressive in southern Spain. The lights are energy-efficient, helping reduce both consumption and light pollution while creating a truly enchanting atmosphere.

Festive Markets and Holiday Treats

No Christmas in Málaga is complete without visiting the seasonal markets. The port area hosts charming stalls offering handmade gifts, local crafts, and delicious treats such as roasted chestnuts and sweet holiday pastries. It’s the perfect place to soak in the local atmosphere and find unique gifts for loved ones.

Fun Facts and Figures
  • The lighting investment in the city centre is around €1.5 million, reflecting Málaga’s commitment to a spectacular and sustainable holiday display.
  • December is one of the busiest months for tourism, second only to the summer season, with hotels recording millions of overnight stays.
